Invisalign® Offers a Subtle Option to Straighten Your Smile
Invisalign® is a comfortable, discreet orthodontic option that can help our patients achieve straighter smiles. The treatment will adjust the alignment of your teeth over several months using clear, plastic aligners that you can remove when you eat and clean your teeth. Invisalign® provides amazing results with no need to wear traditional metal braces. At New Jersey Dental Centers, we also offer Invisalign® Express and Invisalign Teen®. During a consultation, Dr. Khaled Eldin or Dr. Mouner Amer will conduct a careful exam to determine if Invisalign® is right for you. Planning Your Invisalign® Treatment
While traditional braces use brackets and wires to move your teeth into new positions, Invisalign® employs clear plastic aligner trays to exert a slight force on your dental arch. The gentle pressure will cause your teeth to shift into new positions, improving your appearance, bite, and long-term dental health. Before you begin Invisalign® treatment, Dr. Eldin or Dr. Amer will take digital impressions of your teeth. These images will allow us to show you what your smile will look like after your treatment is finished. We can also easily access your data at any time for more personalized and effective care.
The Invisalign® Process
Based on these digital impressions, a series of aligners will be created to fit the unique specifications of your teeth. Each tray will have a slightly different shape, carefully calibrated to achieve optimal alignment. You should wear your trays 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat and maintain regular dental hygiene.
You will change to a new aligner on a regular basis. Typically, we will have children and teens come in every two to three weeks for a new appliance and quick check-up. Adults will maintain a similar schedule, but we will often give them two trays at a time, minimizing their trips to the office. Traditional treatment will take nine to 18 months to complete. Once your treatment goal is reached, your doctor will provide a Vivera® retainer, made with the same digital technology as Invisalign®. This appliance will keep your teeth from moving back to their old positions. Your dentist will provide instructions about how long and how often you will need to wear your retainer.
Are You or Your Child a Candidate for Invisalign®?
Invisalign® can be a good option for many different orthodontic issues. In the past, the treatment was only appropriate for patients with cosmetic concerns. Today, Invisalign® can address these issues, as well as more severe misalignment. If you or your child has an overbite, underbite, crossbite, or some other type of malocclusion, Invisalign® can be a great solution.
If you are considering Invisalign® for your child, we may recommend Invisalign Teen®. This treatment works just like traditional Invisalign®, but you will receive two free replacement aligners. The appliances also have a special blue dot, which will appear when it is time for your child to switch to a new tray. We also offer Invisalign® Express, which can be a good choice if you only have minor misalignment. With this treatment, you will receive five aligner trays, and you will typically see your final results in as little as ten weeks.
The Benefits of Invisalign®
Invisalign® has quickly become a popular orthodontic option, thanks to the many advantages of this treatment:
- As the name suggests, Invisalign® trays will be virtually undetectable
- The aligner trays will exert less force on your teeth than traditional braces, and the smooth plastic will not irritate your lips
- The treatment can significantly enhance your appearance and self-confidence
- With your newly straightened smile, you could enjoy an improved bite, better dental hygiene, and a lower risk for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder
